The Himachal Pradesh Congress legislature party meeting was held in Shimla on Tuesday (December 3, 2024) to finalise preparations for the upcoming two-year anniversary celebrations of the Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu government on December 11.
The meeting was chaired by Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, who revealed that the event aimed to gather 25,000 to 30,000 attendees, with Congress MLAs committing to bringing 18,000 participants from their constituencies. The two-year anniversary function is to be held in Bilaspur and top Congress leaders from across the country are expected to attend it.
Additionally, arrangements are being made to ensure participation from constituencies with no Congress representation. More attendees are expected from nearby areas, with reduced numbers from distant regions.
Key initiatives to be launched
Chief Minister Sukhu highlighted that the event would mark the launch of three major schemes, including Rajiv Gandhi E-Taxi Scheme, Sukh Shiksha Yojana and Gobardhan Scheme (cow dung procurement initiative).
He emphasised the government’s focus on systemic reforms aimed at creating a self-reliant Himachal, while contrasting the achievements with the alleged failures of the previous BJP government, such as fostering corruption and neglecting employment generation.
Relief for consumers, pension continuity
The CM assured that arrears on water bills from the BJP regime would not be collected. He said consumers would only pay a maintenance charge of Rs 100 per meter. Sukhu also announced that pension disbursements had resumed across the state.
3 key achievements over two years
CM Sukhu reiterated the Congress government’s commitment to strengthening the rural economy and addressing past liabilities while driving developmental progress in the state. He claimed his government’s main achievements over two years were the creation of 20,000 new jobs, expedited resolution of court cases involving public issues and clearing debt left by the previous government.
