Constructed at Rs 3.5 crore, is expected to enhance state’s environmental monitoring

Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu inaugurated the newly built Regional Laboratory of the Himachal Pradesh State Pollution Control Board (HPSPCB) at Dari near Dharamshala. The modern facility, constructed at a cost of Rs 3.5 crore, is expected to significantly enhance the state’s environmental monitoring and analytical capabilities.
The laboratory complex spans 938.44 sq m, comprising a basement, ground floor, first floor and top floor, each covering 234.61 sq m. The basement has been earmarked for parking and fitted with essential utilities, including power and water supply, to support the functioning of a full-fledged advanced analytical lab.
Designed to meet high technical standards, the facility features dedicated sections for water and wastewater testing, ambient air quality monitoring and microbiological analysis, enabling comprehensive assessment of environmental parameters.
The complex also includes a sample storage room, chemical and glassware storage areas, a record section, meeting hall and adequate seating for staff, creating a streamlined and efficient working environment.
Speaking at the inauguration, the Chief Minister said the government had ensured sufficient budget support to complete the project as per the norms required for NABL accreditation.
“With its modern infrastructure, enhanced analytical capacity and improved safety provisions, this new laboratory will significantly strengthen the technical capabilities, operational efficiency and service delivery of the State Pollution Control Board,” he said.
The event was attended by Ayush Minister Yadvinder Goma, HP State Planning Board Vice-Chairman Bhawani Singh Pathania, MLAs Sanjay Awasthy, Harish Janartha and Suresh Kumar, Congress leader Devender Jaggi, APMC Kangra Chairman Nishu Mongra, Dharamshala Mayor Neenu Sharma, Chief Secretary Sanjay Gupta, HPSPCB Member Secretary Praveen Gupta and several other dignitaries.
