Dharamshala:

The ruling Congress government in Himachal Pradesh, led by Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, came under sharp criticism from the opposition Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for the alleged continuous neglect of Kangra district. The issue was at the forefront of a significant meeting held by senior BJP leaders in Dharamshala.

The high-level meeting saw the presence of prominent BJP figures, including Leader of the Opposition and former Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur, state BJP vice-president and former Assembly Speaker Vipin Singh Parmar, MLAs Sudhir Sharma and Pawan Kajal, as well as the party’s senior state spokesperson Trilok Kapoor.

During the discussions, the leaders levelled serious allegations against the Congress government, accusing it of entirely ignoring a large and politically significant district like Kangra. They asserted that development works in the region had come to a standstill, government announcements remained confined to paper and the public was feeling cheated.

Leader of the Opposition Jai Ram led the charge, stating that the Sukhu government was promoting regional imbalance and that Kangra was facing deliberate discrimination.

“The Sukhu government is fostering regional imbalance. There is a deliberate and intentional discrimination being meted out to Kangra,” Thakur said. He emphasised that the district, which is crucial in the state’s political landscape, has been sidelined, with its development needs being overlooked by the current administration.

The BJP leaders warned that the public discontent is growing and that the people of Kangra will respond appropriately to the government’s apathy. The meeting is seen as a significant move by the BJP to consolidate its stance and build momentum against the Congress on the issue of regional development ahead of future electoral battles.
