Shimla: The Himachal Pradesh BJP has intensified its campaign against the Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu-led Congress government over the mysterious death of Himachal Pradesh Power Corporation Chief Engineer Vimal Negi.
On Friday (March 21, 2025), BJP Leader of Opposition Jai Ram Thakur along with the party’s state president, Dr Rajeev Bindal, led a delegation to submit a memorandum to Himachal Pradesh Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla, demanding a CBI investigation into the matter.
BJP questions role of IAS officers in investigation
In their memorandum to the Governor, the opposition BJP leaders raised serious concerns about the ongoing investigation and the alleged role of senior officials in the matter.

They questioned how one IAS officer could investigate the role of another IAS officer. They also pointed out that the FIR registered in the case involved the Managing Director (MD) of the department, but there were concerns about the integrity of the investigation, especially since the MD has now been shifted from his position.
The BJP leaders emphasised that a case was filed against the MD, but with his transfer to a new role, the investigation now seemed “biased”.
They demanded that the case be handled by an impartial agency and raised the issue of the involvement of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to ensure a fair and transparent inquiry into the incident.

Allegations of mental harassment, pressure on Vimal Negi
Jai Ram, in his statement, outlined that the BJP Legislature Party had brought the suspicious death of Vimal Negi to the attention of the Governor.

Vimal Negi had been missing for several days before his body was discovered on March 18, 2025, in the Gobindsagar Lake. Despite the family filing a complaint, an FIR was not registered immediately, and his whereabouts remained unknown for a long period.
