Himachal BJP leader first to 'leak' wedding photos of Congress minister Vikramaditya Singh on social media?

Shimla: The much-anticipated wedding of Himachal Pradesh Public Works and Urban Development Minister Vikramaditya Singh has turned a social media rage, not just for the royal celebrations but also for the politics surrounding it.

Within minutes of the first photos from the ceremony surfacing online, they went viral. Media houses rushed to upload them on Facebook, Instagram and other social media platforms. But a question making the rounds in political circles is — was a BJP leader the first to share the images?

The name that has surfaced in this context is that of Prithvi Vikram Sen, Vikramaditya Singh’s maternal uncle who had joined the BJP in 2016 in the presence of then BJP president Amit Shah when Virbhadra Singh was the Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister.

Prithvi Sen was once close to Virbhadra

Once close to six-time Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh, Prithvi Vikram Sen created ripples in Himachal politics when he walked away from the Congress and joined the BJP ahead of the 2017 Assembly elections. His move was seen as a setback for both Virbhadra and wife Pratibha Singh, then Congress MP and now state Congress chief.

The defection deepened further when Prithvi’s sister-in-law, Jyoti, contested the election from Kasumpti on the BJP ticket, challenging the very stronghold of the Singh family.

Prithvi had long been disgruntled after being denied a Congress ticket in earlier elections. He later met BJP president Amit Shah in Delhi and was formally welcomed into the saffron fold at a grand function attended by former Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal.

At that time, he maintained that politics and family ties should not be mixed — a stance that continues to draw curiosity whenever the Singh family is in the spotlight.

High-profile wedding in Chandigarh

Amid this political backdrop, Vikramaditya Singh tied the knot for the second time on September 22 in Chandigarh. The photos shared were from a pre-wedding ceremony. The Anand Karaj ceremony with Amreen Kaur, an assistant professor of psychology at Panjab University, was held at her family home in Sector 2. Amreen Kaur is the daughter of Jotindra Singh Sekhon and Opindra Kaur. The match has been described by family insiders as a quiet union rooted in shared academic and cultural values.

Second marriage for royal scion

This marks the second marriage of Vikramaditya, who was earlier wed to Sudarshana Chundawat of the Amet royal family in Rajasthan in March 2019. The marriage ended in divorce earlier this year.

As a two-time MLA from Shimla (Rural), Vikramaditya remains an important face of the Congress in Himachal Pradesh, balancing royal lineage, electoral politics and now a fresh chapter in his personal life. The viral photos from his wedding have once again underscored how his family’s personal milestones are inextricably linked to the state’s political discourse.
