Hema Malini sets record straight on rumours, says Dharmendra very much alive

Family slams ‘irresponsible’ rumours

Shimla:

In a sharp rebuke to sections of the media, veteran actor and MP Hema Malini took to X early on Tuesday to condemn false reports claiming that Dharmendra had passed away. Calling the misinformation “unforgivable,” she wrote:

“What is happening is unforgivable! How can responsible channels spread false news about a person who is responding to treatment and is recovering? This is being extremely disrespectful and irresponsible. Please give due respect to the family and its need for privacy.”

The clarification came amid a flurry of posts and speculative broadcasts that had sparked panic among fans. Dharmendra’s daughter Esha Deol also issued a firm statement, confirming that the 89-year-old actor is alive and stable, as of 9.10 am on November 11. She urged the public not to fall for rumours circulating online and asked for space as the family navigates the ongoing medical situation.

Dharmendra, who had recently been admitted to Mumbai’s Breach Candy Hospital following episodes of breathlessness, continues to receive treatment. His sons Sunny and Bobby Deol have been making regular visits, though the hospital has not released any formal bulletin. The family has maintained that while his condition required attention, reports of his demise are entirely fabricated.
This story is still developing.

Star who became a symbol

Known across generations as Hindi cinema’s original “He-Man,” Dharmendra has been one of Bollywood’s most enduring icons. Since his debut in Dil Bhi Tera Hum Bhi Tere (1960), he has delivered a body of work that shaped mainstream Indian cinema—moving seamlessly between romance, drama, comedy and action.

His filmography reads like a catalogue of Hindi cinema’s golden milestones: the poignancy of Anupama (1966) and Bandini (1963), the raw grit of Mera Gaon Mera Desh (1971), the unmatchable charisma of Sholay (1975), and the comic mastery of Chupke Chupke (1975). Few actors have bridged genres and eras with such ease.

Still captivating audiences

Even in his late years, Dharmendra’s warmth and screen presence continue to resonate. He appeared in ‘Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani’ (2023), drawing praise for his tender performance, and followed it up with ‘Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya’ (2024). His next film, ‘Ikkis’, starring Agastya Nanda, is slated for a Christmas release.

Rumours that keep returning

This isn’t the first time the actor’s health has become the subject of online speculation. On November 1, whispers about an emergency hospital visit had triggered similar concerns. Fresh claims on November 10 once again pushed the family to intervene and counter misinformation.
