The picturesque hill town of Dalhousie, a popular tourist destination in Himachal Pradesh, has been battered by relentless rainfall since early morning, triggering widespread disruption across the region. Torrential downpours have caused rivers and streams to swell dangerously, leading to multiple road blockages and heightened alert in surrounding areas.
In Dalhousie city, a tree collapsed at Subhash Chowk, obstructing traffic and pedestrian movement. Simultaneously, debris and boulders have fallen onto Balloon Road, further hampering connectivity. Local authorities are working to clear the routes, but continuous rainfall is slowing down operations.
Six kilometers from Dalhousie, in Khalkhupur, a cloudburst over the Karelnu stream has raised concerns, though no casualties have been reported. The sudden surge in water levels has alarmed residents and travelers alike. Nearby Bathri is also witnessing overflowing streams, adding to the region’s vulnerability.
Despite the intensity of the rainfall and the resulting hazards, there have been no reports of loss of life or major property damage so far. However, the situation remains tense, with weather forecasts predicting continued heavy showers.
As a precautionary measure, key routes including Dalhousie–Pathankot, Dalhousie–Chamba, and Dalhousie–Khajjiar have been temporarily closed due to landslides and waterlogging. Tourists and locals have been advised to avoid travel until conditions improve.
The district administration is closely monitoring the situation and has urged residents to remain indoors and stay alert. Emergency teams are on standby, and restoration efforts are underway to reopen blocked roads and ensure public safety.
Dalhousie’s serene landscape has turned turbulent under nature’s fury, reminding all of the fragile balance between beauty and vulnerability in the Himalayan terrain.
