Massive fire in Himachal’s Nadaun, 23 shanties of migrant workers reduced to ashes

A major fire broke out at Rangad village under Bhumpal gram panchayat of Nadaun subdivision in Hamirpur district of Himachal Pradesh, reducing 23 shanties of migrant labourers to ashes.
Though there were no casualties, all belongings inside the huts were completely destroyed. According to an initial administrative assessment, the estimated loss is around Rs 6 lakh.

Migrant families claim Rs 2.5 lakh lost in cash

Migrant families reported that approximately Rs 2.5 lakh in cash was lost in the blaze. One affected labourer stated that he had kept Rs 60,000 in his hut to send home, but the money was burnt.
The families were attending a community feast nearby when the fire broke out. Short-circuit is suspected to be the cause. The fire brigade was alerted and firefighters managed to control the flames.

Mother saves child from burning hut

Eyewitnesses recounted a heart-stopping moment when a migrant worker’s child was trapped inside a burning hut. In a courageous act, the mother rushed into the flames to rescue her child, escaping safely despite the intense fire.
Nadaun SDM Rakesh Kumar Sharma visited the site, assessing the damage and speaking with the affected families. The SDM stated that the victims, mostly from Uttar Pradesh and Bihar, were provided temporary shelter and food with the panchayat’s assistance.
He also announced an immediate relief of Rs 2,000 per family, with further compensation to be determined after a detailed loss assessment.
