The Solan police have registered an FIR against Beopar Mandal president Kushal Jethi and several leaders of the Hindu Samaj for their involvement in a protest that escalated into violence and deviated from its approved route. The protest, which was held in Solan, saw participants raising objectionable slogans against a particular community, with videos of the incident going viral on social media.

Protest turns violent, slogans target community

According to the police, the protest was led by Kushal Jethi, along with Hindu Samaj representatives Mukesh Sharma, Bhupendra Thakur, Ashish and others. The rally was initially scheduled to proceed from Children’s Park to the Purana Bus Stand via Upper Bazaar. However, the situation took a turn for the worse when protesters engaged in a scuffle with a person on Mall Road and began shouting inflammatory slogans against a specific community.

The police also reported that the protesters marked several shops near the Old Bus Stand and other locations with cross marks, while also damaging hoardings outside some businesses. These actions have further fuelled tensions in the area.

Rally deviates from approved route

The protest rally deviated from its approved route when Kushal Jethi led the group away from the designated path towards Kotla Nala. The rally, which was permitted only until 12 noon, continued beyond the fixed time, despite repeated attempts by the authorities to disperse the crowd. Eventually, the protesters reached Thodo Ground in direct violation of the route plan approved by the police.

The rally was held to protest the lathicharge on protesters in Shimla’s Sanjauli during an agitation against an illegal mosque. Following these events, a formal case has been registered at the Sadar police station in Solan against the leaders involved in organising the protest. Solan SP Gaurav Singh confirmed the filing of the case, citing violations of public order and incitement of communal tensions as key factors.
