Private hospital in Sirmaur flagged suspicious conduct, denied surgery permission
Paonta Sahib/Nahan: It’s nothing short of divine intervention that no lives were lost in Himachal Pradesh at the hands of fake cardiologist Narendra Vikramaditya Yadav, alias Enjan Cam, whose botched heart surgeries reportedly led to the deaths of seven patients in Madhya Pradesh’s Damoh.
Shocking revelations now confirm that this self-styled ‘London-trained’ heart specialist briefly worked in Sirmaur district before being shown the door when doubts arose over his qualifications.
Though he managed to gain temporary employment in Paonta Sahib and Nahan as a consultant, the private hospital management denied him permission to perform any heart surgeries due to missing credentials.
His deceitful stint, however, has left the local health department scrambling, raising serious questions about vetting procedures for medical professionals in the region.
Sirmaur hospital terminated services after suspicion
Around a year and a half ago, Yadav reportedly served at a reputed private hospital’s branches in Paonta Sahib and Nahan, falsely claiming to be a cardiologist with a UK degree.
However, repeated inconsistencies in patient test results, particularly angiographies and echocardiograms, raised suspicions. Hospital authorities, unable to verify his academic documents, promptly terminated his services.
He had submitted an Aadhaar card from Dehradun and claimed foreign medical education but failed to produce valid supporting documentation.
Was hired at a hefty salary of ₹8 lakh/month
Due to the hospital’s vigilance, Yadav was never allowed to perform invasive procedures in Himachal.
This likely averted a tragedy similar to the one that unfolded in Damoh, where Yadav, hired at a hefty salary of ₹8 lakh/month by a private agency, allegedly conducted cardiac operations resulting in the deaths of seven patients.
After the fatal incident, he fled and was later arrested from Prayagraj in Uttar Pradesh. His claims of completing MBBS in 1996 and specialising in cardiology in 2001 remain unverified and possibly fabricated.
Health Dept sends directions to all private hospitals
Following the Madhya Pradesh revelations and Yadav’s confirmed connection to Sirmaur, the Himachal Pradesh Health Department has gone into alert mode.
The Chief Medical Officer (CMO) of Sirmaur, Dr Amitabh Jain, has acknowledged that he was previously unaware of the case but has now sought detailed records from the private hospitals involved.
“All private hospitals have been instructed to thoroughly verify all qualifications, registrations and documentation before appointing doctors,” Dr. Jain said.
The district currently has 13 private hospitals, two nursing homes and 25 diagnostic centres, all now under review for potential compliance lapses.
