An earthquake awareness program, including a mock drill and lecture, was organized at Government Arya Degree College, Nurpur under the chairmanship of Principal Dr. Anil Kumar Thakur. The primary objective of the event was to educate students and staff about safety measures to be adopted during natural disasters like earthquakes.
The program began with an informative lecture by the Assistant Professor of Geography, who explained the causes, impacts, and preventive measures related to earthquakes. Disaster Management Committee member Surjit Singh emphasized that Himachal Pradesh is a highly earthquake-prone region, making vigilance and preparedness essential for all.
Following this, a mock drill was conducted in the college premises, simulating an earthquake scenario. As the siren sounded, students and staff were guided to safe zones and practiced techniques such as “Drop, Cover, and Hold.” Dr. Satya Prakash highlighted that such drills help people develop the ability to make quick and correct decisions during emergencies, thereby reducing potential loss of life and property.
The program concluded with Professor Manjeet extending gratitude to all participants and resolving to continue organizing similar awareness initiatives in the future.
