Hamirpur:

In a disturbing case that exposes the devastating impact of drug addiction in Himachal Pradesh, a woman from Hamirpur allegedly sold her father’s car in exchange for just one tola (approx 10 grams) of heroin (chitta). The shocking revelation came during an investigation into a car theft case registered at the Hamirpur police station on June 28.

The woman, a mother of a four-year-old child, had initially been accused of stealing the vehicle by her father. Police investigations later revealed that she, along with a male accomplice from Hamirpur town, had taken the car to Jalandhar and sold it for Rs 90,000. Both tested positive for drug use during a subsequent drug test.

Sold car to fund heroin purchase

According to the police, the woman and her friend used the proceeds from the car sale to purchase heroin in Jalandhar. The man, who was arrested earlier, is currently in judicial custody. The woman, meanwhile, was granted bail and returned to her father’s home, only to go missing again two days ago.

The person who bought the stolen car was later apprehended in McLeodganj and the vehicle was recovered. However, the buyer was released after questioning once the car was seized.

Father left to raise grandchild alone

The accused woman’s father, who filed the initial police complaint, revealed that his daughter had long struggled with drug addiction. He is now caring for her four-year-old son and expressed helplessness in dealing with her behaviour. He had refused to take her back even after her bail, but she stayed briefly at the family home before disappearing again.

Superintendent of Police Bhagat Singh Thakur confirmed the recovery of the stolen car and said that all angles of the case were being thoroughly investigated. “We have received information from the family that the woman is again missing. She is married and also has a young child. The situation is deeply unfortunate,” he said.
