Shimla: In a significant move aimed at reinforcing gender-sensitive practices within the force, Director General of Police Ashok Tewari has issued a directive to all officers and personnel of the Himachal Pradesh Police to uphold the safety, dignity and respect of women colleagues in the workplace.

The directive emphasises the creation of a professional and inclusive environment, urging all ranks to maintain a polite and respectful demeanor towards women staff. It calls for a zero-tolerance approach to any form of harassment or discrimination.

To promote open communication and empower women personnel, exclusive WhatsApp groups comprising only women police staff have been formed across all wings of the force. These groups will serve as a platform for sharing ideas and raising concerns, which will be communicated to the Police Headquarters through the senior-most woman officer in each group.

The advisory, issued by the DGP, outlines the following key points:
1. All officers and officials must interact with women colleagues in a polite, professional and respectful manner.
2. A safe and secure work environment must be ensured, devoid of any harassment or gender-based discrimination.
3. A culture of dignity and mutual respect should be promoted, allowing every member of the force to feel valued and empowered.
4. Dedicated WhatsApp groups for women personnel have been set up to facilitate open discussion and reporting of concerns.

Reiterating the department’s commitment, the DGP said, “The Himachal Pradesh Police is dedicated to fostering a workplace where all employees, regardless of gender, feel secure, respected and motivated. Let us work together to uphold these principles.”
