Shimla: During a review meeting of the Jal Shakti Department, Deputy Chief Minister Mukesh Agnihotri disclosed that Himachal Pradesh has received only ₹5,100 crore out of ₹6,300 crore approved under the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM). Thus, nearly ₹1,200 crore remains unreleased by the Centre .

Addressing officials, Agnihotri urged immediate follow-up with central authorities to secure the remaining funds. He also noted a shortfall in allocations for the ongoing fiscal year—₹137 crore disbursed against ₹920 crore sanctioned—leaving ₹783 crore pending.

He directed department heads to expedite completion of ongoing rural piped water projects (Har Ghar Nal Yojana) and visit field sites to address public grievances and logistical bottlenecks. “Ensuring reliable tap water supply remains a top priority,” he said.

Improvements in water infrastructure and irrigation schemes under JJM were discussed, particularly in tribal regions. Agnihotri stressed disciplined financial management and timely execution of projects to sustain state efforts in clean water access.

A formal representation highlighting fund shortfalls is being prepared by the state government and will be submitted to the Union Jal Shakti Ministry at the earliest. Officials anticipate that rapid release of funds will accelerate connectivity for thousands of rural households, fulfilling both local aspirations and national targets.

Authorities expect that successful resolution of fund delays will bring long-term improvement in rural water delivery and infrastructure.
