DHARAMSHALA:
The Delhi Police have identified the man believed to be driving the car that exploded near the Red Fort on Monday (November 10, 2025) evening, killing at least 12 people and injuring 20 others. Sources said the suspect, Umar Mohammad, a doctor from Pulwama, Jammu and Kashmir, was allegedly connected to a Faridabad-based terror module from which a significant cache of explosives had been seized earlier this week.
According to police officials, preliminary forensic analysis suggests that ammonium nitrate, fuel oil and detonators may have been used to trigger the explosion near the Red Fort metro station parking area.
The composition is said to be similar to the materials recovered from a Faridabad hideout, where 360 kg of ammonium nitrate was found as part of a larger seizure of nearly 2,900 kg of explosives.
CCTV footage collected from the vicinity shows a masked individual driving a Hyundai i20, identified as the vehicle that exploded around 6.52 pm near a traffic signal outside the metro station. The footage is being examined by multiple teams to establish the suspect’s movements before the blast.
Investigators are probing possible operational links between the Delhi blast and the Faridabad terror network, where eight individuals, including three doctors, were arrested a few hours before the Delhi incident. Sources said Mohammad, also a doctor by profession, was believed to be associated with the same network, reportedly backed by Jaish-e-Mohammad operatives.
Nation alert and intensified security checks
Following the explosion, security was heightened across the National Capital Region, with police conducting extensive checks at borders, metro stations, markets, and public transport hubs. All vehicles entering the city are being inspected, and hotel records in Paharganj and Daryaganj are under scrutiny as part of ongoing search operations.
A senior police officer said that the suspect’s vehicle had been parked in a nearby lot for nearly three hours before the blast occurred. Teams are reviewing surveillance footage from different parking zones to verify this detail.
“All police stations have been directed to remain on high alert and report any suspicious activity immediately,” the officer added.
Delhi Police Commissioner Satish Golcha confirmed that the explosion took place in a slow-moving car at a traffic signal. “Teams from the Delhi Police, FSL, NIA, and NSG are examining the scene. All possible angles, including the Faridabad connection, are under investigation,” he said.
Investigators explore motive, possible larger network
Police sources indicated that Umar Mohammad may have acted independently after learning that his associates from the Faridabad module had been detained. “He may have attempted the attack fearing imminent arrest,” an officer said.
The blast was powerful enough to destroy several nearby vehicles, shatter glass panels of the metro station, and damage buildings in the vicinity. Ten fire tenders were dispatched to the site, and the flames were brought under control within 40 minutes, according to Delhi Fire Services officials.
Videos captured by bystanders show the magnitude of the explosion — mangled vehicles, shattered windows, and debris scattered across the area. Investigators are now working to determine whether the incident was a suicide bombing or part of a wider terror conspiracy.
