A programme highlighting the ills of smoking and substance abuse was organised on Thursday (October 10, 2024) at Shaheed Major Sudhir Kumar Walia Government Senior Secondary School, Banuri, in Kangra district of Himachal Pradesh.
Organised in collaboration with the Health Department, the event featured a declamation contest in which students from the Government Senior Secondary School, Banuri, actively participated. Additionally, a drawing competition was held, with around 15 to 20 participants showcasing their talents.

The function saw the presence of Medical Officer Dr Shivani Guleria from the Primary Health Center, Batori, Health Superviser Sunita Devi and ASHA worker Sarita Devi, who were the chief guests.
They addressed the students, highlighting the harmful effects of substance abuse and the dangers of smoking. The students were encouraged to stay away from smoking and were made aware of the physical and mental health risks associated with it.
During the programme, Dr Shivani Guleria awarded prizes to the students who secured the first, second, and third positions in the competitions.
The school principal, Ravindra Kumar Verma, Vice-Principal Rita Nanda, senior teacher Rakesh Bhardwaj and NSS in-charge Balwant Singh were also present at the event.
