Decision likely on tabling stringent anti-drug bill as crucial meeting of Himachal cabinet today

The Himachal Pradesh cabinet is set to meet on Monday (March 24, 2025) under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu.

Originally scheduled for March 19, the meeting had to be postponed due to the Chief Minister’s busy schedule. The cabinet meeting, now slated for Monday, will take place amid the ongoing budget session of the Himachal Pradesh Assembly.

Discussions in the meeting are expected to focus on bills that will be introduced in the Assembly. After the cabinet’s decisions, these bills will be presented in the legislature during the budget session.

Firm steps to combat drug menace

The Himachal Pradesh government is taking firm steps to combat the drug menace in the state. Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu’s government is preparing to introduce the much-awaited anti-drug act.

This bill will be presented during the current budget session, with a decision expected to be made at today’s cabinet meeting. The act aims to implement stringent measures against the growing drug abuse issue in the region. The Himachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly’s Budget Session commenced on March 10 and will continue until March 28.

Legislative Assembly Session: Questions and Budget Discussion

Today’s proceedings in the Assembly began with the question hour at 2 pm where a total of 55 questions were to be raised by MLAs. Out of these, 44 are starred questions and 11 are unstarred questions, all related to various government departments.

The state government will provide answers to these questions during the session. Following the question hour, Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu will make a statement on the weekly list of official activities.
The session will then proceed with the presentation of documents and committee reports.

Additionally, the discussion, presentation, and voting on the budget estimates for the year 2025-26 will take place, followed by the introduction of cut motions in the Assembly.
