Bomb threat shakes Chamba DC office as Himachal sees third such incident in recent weeks

Chamba: A bomb threat sent via email to the Deputy Commissioner’s office in Chamba triggered panic on Thursday, prompting an immediate evacuation of the premises and deployment of police and bomb disposal teams.

The threat, which mirrors similar incidents at Mandi DC office and the Himachal Secretariat in Shimla earlier this month, has put security agencies across the state on high alert.

The threatening email, received early in the day, claimed that a bomb had been planted at the DC office and would be detonated, said Chamba SP Abhishek Yadav.

Officials responded swiftly, vacating the building and cordoning off the area. Police personnel and bomb squad units arrived at the scene to conduct a thorough search.

DC office evacuated, no explosives found so far

Chamba Deputy Commissioner Mukesh Repaswal said that as a precautionary measure, all staff and visitors were escorted out of the office complex. The area was sealed and a detailed inspection of the premises was undertaken by security forces.

No explosive material has been discovered, but officials are treating the threat with the utmost seriousness.
District authorities have also stepped up surveillance in and around the DC office complex. Additional police personnel have been deployed to secure the premises while cyber teams trace the source of the email.

Pattern emerges: Mandi DC office and Shimla Secretariat also targeted

This incident marks the third such bomb threat targeting government buildings in Himachal Pradesh in recent weeks.

Earlier, similar email threats were received at the Deputy Commissioner’s office in Mandi and the Chief Secretary’s office at the state Secretariat in Shimla. In both cases, no explosives were found, but security was intensified following the alerts.

Officials believe there may be a pattern or coordinated attempt to disrupt administrative functioning and spread fear. Investigations are underway to determine whether the same source is behind all three threats.
