DHARAMSHALA: A day after false rumours about his d*eath spread online, veteran Bollywood actor Dharmendra was discharged from Breach Candy Hospital in south Mumbai on Wednesday morning. The 89-year-old actor, who had been admitted for medical tests last week, will now continue his recovery at home, his family confirmed.

In an official statement, the Deol family urged the media and the public to refrain from speculation about the actor’s health.

“Mr Dharmendra has been discharged from the hospital and will continue his recovery at home. We kindly request the media and the public to avoid further rumours and to respect his and the family’s privacy,” a spokesperson for Sunny Deol said.

“We deeply appreciate everyone’s love, prayers, and good wishes for his good health and long life. Please respect him—he loves you all.”
The statement came a day after widespread misinformation about Dharmendra’s condition circulated on social media, prompting his family to issue clarifications.

Doctor confirms discharge, actor to recover at home

Dr Pratit Samdani, who treated Dharmendra at Breach Candy Hospital, confirmed that the actor was discharged around 7:30 a.m. on Wednesday.

“Dharmendra ji has been discharged and will continue his treatment at home, as decided by the family,” the doctor said, without sharing further details about his health condition.

An ambulance was later seen leaving the hospital for Sunny Deol’s residence in Juhu, where Dharmendra will recuperate under medical supervision.

Family slams false reports, celebrities visit veteran star

On Tuesday, Dharmendra’s daughter Esha Deol took to Instagram to dismiss reports of her father’s death, calling them “completely false”.

“The media seems to be in overdrive and spreading fake news. My father is stable and recovering. We request everyone to give our family privacy. Thank you for your prayers for papa’s speedy recovery,” she wrote.

Dharmendra’s wife, actor-politician Hema Malini, also criticised sections of the media for their “irresponsible and disrespectful” reporting.

“How can responsible news channels spread false information about someone who is responding well to treatment? This behaviour is unforgivable. Please give our family the privacy it deserves,” she posted on X.
Several Bollywood stars, including Shah Rukh Khan, Aamir Khan, and Salman Khan, reportedly visited the veteran actor during his hospital stay to wish him a quick recovery.

Dharmendra, often hailed as one of Hindi cinema’s most beloved icons, has featured in classics such as Sholay, Chupke Chupke, and Phool Aur Patthar over his six-decade-long career. Fans across the country have expressed relief following news of his discharge.
