Dalhousie: Prominent Dalhousie-based construction entrepreneur Pankaj Kapoor has lodged a complaint with the Superintendent of Police (SP), Chamba, alleging that a social media campaign has been launched to malign the reputation of his father, Tilak Raj Kapoor.

Kapoor said that on August 19, a video surfaced on a Facebook page that levelled “false, fabricated and baseless” allegations against his father.

He claimed the content was deliberately created to damage both his family’s personal standing and his father’s professional reputation.

In his complaint, Kapoor demanded that an FIR be registered under provisions of defamation and cybercrime.

He also urged the authorities to ensure that the “objectionable and defamatory” video is blocked at the earliest to prevent further circulation.

He further called on the police to seek technical details from Facebook and internet service providers in order to identify the individuals operating the page.

“The intention is clearly malicious, and strong legal action is necessary to put a stop to such online harassment,” Kapoor wrote in his complaint.

The complaint underscores growing concerns in Himachal Pradesh over the misuse of social media platforms for character assassination and unverified allegations.

While political groups and individuals increasingly turn to digital channels to amplify their voices, critics say the absence of strict accountability mechanisms often leads to reputational harm and legal disputes.

Police officials confirmed receipt of the complaint and said the matter was under examination. “We are verifying the allegations and appropriate action will be taken as per law,” a senior officer in Chamba said.
