Dharamshala: District Council member Joginder Singh has accused forestry department officials of corruption in the entry fee collection at the Triund trek.

Speaking at a press conference in Dharamshala on Monday, Singh stated that while the state government is busy securing its seat of power, some officials have been busy filling their pockets.

He alleged that employees deployed by the forestry department and home guards at Triund trek have been involved in corrupt practices by overcharging tourists.

According to Singh, the forestry department has set an entry fee of Rs 100 for the trek, but the officials and home guards are collecting Rs 200 from domestic tourists and Rs 1800 from foreign tourists instead.

He claimed that Rs 400 and Rs 100 is being recorded on official documents. Such malpractices have resulted in millions being siphoned off from tourists’ pockets while the department remains silent.

Singh has lodged complaints with the Kangra Superintendent of Police and the Vigilance Superintendent, asserting that they have been assured prompt action will be taken.
