A fresh political row has erupted in Himachal Pradesh after Congress Mandi district president Champa Thakur launched a blistering attack on BJP MP from Mandi and actor Kangana Ranaut over her controversial remarks about Gen-Z women.
Addressing a press conference on Tuesday, Thakur accused the Lok Sabha MP of repeatedly using language that, she said, was “unbecoming of a public representative” and inconsistent with the values and traditions of Himachal Pradesh.
“The kind of offensive language Kangana Ranaut uses is not the language of Dev Bhoomi Himachal. Such statements neither reflect our culture nor our traditions,” Thakur said.
Escalating her criticism, the Congress leader alleged that Kangana’s prolonged stay in Delhi and Mumbai had distanced her from the ethos of her home state.
“It appears that living in Delhi and Mumbai has affected her mental balance. That is why she continues to make irresponsible and outrageous statements,” she alleged.
Thakur further said that Kangana’s repeated controversial remarks had embarrassed Himachal Pradesh and asserted that she no longer considered the BJP MP worthy of being called “Himachal’s daughter.”
“I do not even like to refer to her as the daughter of Himachal. She should abandon the use of abusive and insulting language. She has paid the price for such remarks in the past and should learn from those experiences,” she said.
The Congress leader’s remarks came in response to Kangana Ranaut’s recent comments in Delhi on the NEET agitation, during which the BJP MP allegedly referred to Hindu Gen-Z girls as a “gutter generation” and questioned their awareness. The statement sparked widespread criticism on social media and drew strong reactions from political leaders and sections of the public, with many accusing her of making an insensitive and derogatory remark.
Meanwhile, Thakur also announced a major organisational exercise undertaken by the Congress in Mandi district. She said the party had completed the formation of block-level executive committees and appointed nearly 150 office-bearers to strengthen its grassroots network.
She said the performance of every office-bearer would be reviewed once every three months and that non-performing functionaries could face removal from their organisational responsibilities.
“The objective is to build a stronger organisation while ensuring that the welfare schemes of the Himachal Pradesh government reach every household through Congress workers,” she said.
The latest exchange has further intensified the political confrontation between the Congress and the BJP in Himachal Pradesh, with Kangana Ranaut’s remarks continuing to fuel a heated political debate both inside and outside the state.
