The Chandigarh-Manali Nation Highway has reopened after being closed overnight in Mandi district of Himachal Pradesh due to multiple landslides triggered by heavy rainfall. The landslides, which occurred at three critical points — 5 Miles, 6 Miles and 9 Miles — resulted in significant disruptions to travel.
The Mandi-Pandoh National Highway was shut at 9.30 pm last night as debris and rocks obstructed the road, leaving numerous vehicles stranded on both sides of the highway. The authorities worked tirelessly to clear the debris. While the 5 Miles and 6 Miles obstructions were cleared earlier, the one at 9 Miles took more time for complete clearance.
To mitigate the impact, the authorities had diverted small vehicles via Katoula and Gohar. However, a substantial number of vehicles remained stranded, causing frustration among travellers.
Between Pandoh and Aut, the highway was open but damaged and narrowed near Dyod Nala and Jogni Mata Temple. The police managed one-way traffic at these locations, resulting in minor traffic jams. An official said the travellers between Mandi and Kullu were advised to proceed with caution, considering the current road conditions.
