Dalhousie (Subhash Mahajan)
A pump operator of the Himachal Pradesh Jal Shakti Department allegedly ended his life by jumping into a dam in Chamba district’s Khairi area.
The deceased has been identified as Maninder Kumar, a resident of Jangi village in Chamba. He had been working as a regular employee in the Jal Shakti Department since 2021.
Struggling with mental health issues
According to family members, Maninder had been battling mental health issues for some time. He had expressed feelings of unease and anxiety to his colleagues and family members on several occasions.
The family revealed that they had spoken to him around 1 am the previous night and planned to take him for a medical check-up the next morning. However, his untimely death has left them in deep shock. No suspicion has been raised by the family against anyone.
Police investigation underway
The incident is being investigated by ASI Raj Kumar. A case has been registered under Section 174 and the investigation is ongoing.
Upon learning of the incident, police and divers rushed to the site. After four hours of search operations, the body was recovered and sent for postmortem. The body has since been handed over to the family to perform last rites.
Khairi police station in-charge Sanjeev Kumar confirmed the incident and assured that further inquiries would be conducted to understand the circumstances leading to this tragedy.
