In an inspiring session at Himalayan Public Senior Secondary School, Chowari, Block Development Officer (BDO) Anil Gurda motivated students during the Udaan career counselling programme, organised by Himachal Pradesh’s first English digital news channel, The Newz Radar, in association with Aarni University-Kangra.
The initiative aims to expose students to multiple career options and provide guidance on building a successful professional journey.
Gurda, an HAS 2020-batch officer, shared his remarkable journey in the administrative services. Selected at the age of 31, he spoke about the challenges and perseverance required during his preparation for civil services, including appearing for the UPSC mains three times. He also highlighted his experience attending coaching centres in Delhi and Chandigarh, where he guided other aspirants, reflecting his commitment to mentorship and learning.
Addressing the students, Gurda emphasised that career success is not limited to one or two options. “There are multiple pathways to achieving your goals. The key is to seek the right guidance and stay committed to your vision,” he said.
The programme began with a traditional welcome, with Gurda being honoured with a shawl and cap.
Gopal Puri, Political Editor of The Newz Radar, introduced the initiative, while a counsellor from Aarni University provided additional career guidance and mentorship. The school principal thanked the organisers and the chief guest for their efforts in supporting student development.
Students actively engaged with the speakers, asking questions about competitive exams, administrative services, and career planning. Teachers described the session as highly motivating, highlighting the value of real-life role models in shaping aspirations and building confidence.
The Udaan initiative continues to empower students across Himachal Pradesh, bridging the gap between ambition and opportunity while inspiring disciplined study habits, career awareness and personal growth.
