Bharmour (Mahinder Patial)

The tribal region of Bharmour in Chamba district of Himachal Pradesh experienced fresh snowfall early Sunday morning, as predicted by the weather department.
The unexpected snowfall briefly disrupted plans for Lohri celebrations, with some residents reconsidering their travel to the plains during the winter break.
The snowfall began in the wee hours and paused around 9 am, leaving the region covered in a white blanket. Bharmour town recorded approximately 2 inches of fresh snow, while the Bharmani Mata Temple area received 6 inches. Higher altitudes, including Kugti Pass, Chobia Pass and Manimahesh Dal Lake, experienced nearly 2 feet of fresh snowfall.
The snowfall brought cheer to farmers and orchardists as the cold is essential for apple trees’ chilling requirements. The horticulture department has also distributed fresh saplings of apples, kiwis, pomegranate, plums, apricots, walnuts and persimmons to farmers, leveraging the favourable conditions for planting.
The fresh snowfall not only adorned Bharmour’s landscape but also provided an ideal opportunity for plantation activities, a boon for the local farming community.
