Senior Himachal Pradesh BJP leader and Jaswan-Pragpur MLA Bikram Thakur has slammed the Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu-led Congress government for planning a grand celebration of his regime’s second anniversary in power when there was “nothing significant to celebrate”.
Addressing a press conference in Hamirpur, which was organised by the BJP’s district unit, Thakur said, “The Sukhu government is going to complete two years in power very soon. The Himachal people want to ask the government what’s the celebration all about and what worthwhile has it done in two years?”
A former Cabinet minister, Thakur said all sections of the society had been suffering under the Congress rule. “The Congress came to power on the basis of false promises, none of which have been kept.”
Thakur alleged that during the last two years, Himachal had hogged the headlines but only for wrong reasons. “Himachal got infamy due to toilet tax. Then there was the issue of HRTC buses charging from passengers for carrying goods. The CM lost his samosa and to locate it a CID inquiry was instituted. The High Court attaching the Himachal Bhawan in Delhi was unprecedented,” he said.
On the employment front, the former minister questioned the Sukhu government’s promise of creating 5 lakh jobs in five years, demanding accountability for how many jobs had actually been provided in its first two years in power.
Thakur alleged that the Congress had promised Rs 1,500 monthly grant to women aged 18 to 60 years, but now riders had been added to the scheme. “But even after the addition of riders, the allowance was not being disbursed,” he said.
The BJP leader also slammed CM Sukhu for closing around 1,500 institutions and offices opened by the previous Jai Ram Thakur government. “The closure of these institutions has dealt a severe blow to the people,” he said, adding the Congress regime had let down the Himachal people on every front.
