Blending Tradition & Occult, Young Woman Finds Her Calling in Dharamshala

Dharamshala: Tulika Bansal grew up in Haryana, a land better known for its agrarian roots and the Jat community’s traditions than for spiritual mysticism. Yet, in her early 20s, she has charted a path that few from her background would have imagined.

Her fascination with the recitation of mantras led her to the study of Hindu scriptures — the Vedas, Puranas and Upanishads — where she completed her postgraduate degree and earned the title of Acharya. Today, she goes by Acharya Tulika, a name that reflects both her scholarship and her chosen vocation.

In Dharamshala, where she now resides, Tulika runs the Kalika Magick store, offering tarot readings, astrological birth chart consultations, and spiritual healing practices. “I am into healing and telepathy too,” she said. “Animal healing is a new concept I am working on, where I help my clients communicate with their pets or other animals.”

Tulika also claims that psychic abilities can serve as a bridge to those who have passed on. “Yes, it is actually possible to connect with loved ones who are no longer in this world,” she added, her voice steady with conviction.

The disciplines she practices — often categorized as occult sciences — remain niche, particularly for someone from a conservative state like Haryana. But Tulika embraces the seeming incongruity. “In this digital age, one should live their passion,” she said.

The eldest of three siblings — with two younger brothers — Tulika has carved out an unconventional path, one that has taken her from the plains of Haryana to the Himalayan foothills, and from tradition to the arcane. Her father’s journey started from the craft of jewelry-making to the world of hospitality. Her story, much like her work, is a blend of the unexpected and the mystical.
