SHIMLA: An explosion occurred at the residence of Kotkhai Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Ashwani Kumar Sharma in Shimla district of Himachal Pradesh, leading to minor injuries to him. The cause of the explosion is said to be to be the leakage of cooking LPG (liquefied petroleum gas).
The SDM’s residence is located on the top floor of a private building in the market area. The incident took place around 3 am when Ashwani Kumar woke up to have a glass of water. Upon entering the kitchen and attempting to heat water on the gas stove, a sudden and loud explosion ensued, causing a rapid spread of fire throughout the kitchen. Subsequently, the entire floor was engulfed in flames.
The sound of the explosion alerted nearby residents, who swiftly rushed to the scene to rescue the SDM. Simultaneously, the local police arrived and, with the assistance of bystanders, managed to control and extinguish the fire.
Despite the severity of the explosion, SDM Ashwani Kumar sustained only minor injuries. The police have initiated an investigation into the matter and have officially registered a case.
