Dharamshala:
A major political storm is brewing in Himachal Pradesh over the proposed relocation of the Central University campus from the Dharamshala-Shahpur region to Dehra, with BJP leader and advocate Vishav Chakshu launching a scathing attack on the ruling Congress.

Speaking to the media, Chakshu accused the Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu-led government of deliberately stalling progress in Dharamshala and playing politics with the future of students.

“Land measuring around 28 hectares has already been transferred in Dharamshala for the Central University, yet the Congress government is dragging its feet and now preparing to shift the campus to Dehra,” said Chakshu.

Sukhu govt pushing Dharamshala into gutter, says Chakshu

Chakshu alleged that the state government is treating Dharamshala like a second-class city. “BJP MLA Sudhir Sharma is doing everything possible to promote development here and envisions turning Dharamshala into a ‘Heaven City’. But instead of supporting him, the Congress government is pushing Dharamshala into the gutter,” he said.

He further claimed that Rs 30 crore required to complete formalities related to the campus land in Jadrangal near Dharamshala has not been released by the state government, stalling construction and damaging students’ interests.

Chakshu warned that the issue is no longer just about infrastructure, but about thousands of students whose future hangs in the balance. “The government must stop playing political games. It should immediately release the pending funds and prioritise the original plan for the Central University in Dharamshala,” he demanded.

He also pointed out that shifting the campus to Dehra could not only waste the already transferred land but also amount to blatant discrimination against Dharamshala, which has long been promised a central academic institution.
