BJP MLA Randhir Sharma on Friday slammed Revenue Minister Jagat Singh Negi for making “baseless and undignified” remarks about the RSS during the Assembly debate on delaying Panchayati Raj and urban body elections.

Sharma said the Congress government has “no solid reason” to postpone the polls and is using the Disaster Management Act as an excuse. He alleged that instead of answering why elections are being delayed, the minister diverted the discussion by attacking the RSS and BJP leaders.

Defending the RSS, Sharma called the minister’s allegations “factually wrong” and highlighted the organisation’s historic service contributions. He also claimed that the Congress is uneasy as the RSS is celebrating its centenary with large public participation.

The BJP demanded that the government stop pressuring the Election Commission, hold elections on time and that the Revenue Minister apologise for his remarks.
