Amba Sharma Rotary Charitable Trust hosts annual ceremony
MANDI: The Amba Sharma Rotary Charitable Trust celebrated its annual ceremony in Sundernagar where significant donations were announced for the completion of a world-class charitable eye hospital that is currently under construction.
The event saw prominent dignitaries, including BJP chief and Union Health Minister JP Nadda’s wife Mallika Nadda, who is the president of Special Olympics Bharat and chairperson of the Asia Pacific Advisory Council, as the chief guest. BJP MLA from Sundernagar Rakesh Jamwal was the guest of honour.

and provided a comprehensive overview of the hospital’s progress over the past year. Amba Sharma, the Trust’s chief patron and lead donor, also addressed the gathering, urging everyone to contribute generously to this noble cause. To date, Amba Sharma has donated Rs 2.7 crore for the hospital and pledged to raise double the amount through other contributors.

First-of-its-kind eye hospital for the region
The state-of-the-art eye hospital, set to open next year, will be the first of its kind in the region. Equipped with world-class facilities, the seven-storey hospital will provide treatment for a wide range of eye conditions, from routine care to severe diseases. This healthcare initiative is expected to significantly improve access to quality eye care for residents across the state.
Generous donations and continued support
MLA Rakesh Jamwal, who has already donated Rs 10 lakh to the Trust, announced an additional Rs 5 lakh at the event and assured his continued support. Mallika Nadda also contributed Rs 10 lakh on behalf of her father and committed to securing further assistance through CSR funding. In her address, she promised that two floors of the hospital would be completed with her own resources. She also pledged to involve her husband, Union Minister Jagat Prakash Nadda, and corporate sector leaders to further this charitable mission.
Corporate and community contributions
Other notable donations were made by local philanthropists and businessmen. Rotarian KD Nirash contributed Rs 5 lakh; Jai Singh Thakur, a government contractor, donated Rs 5 lakh and Surinder Sen of Manali Sweets gave Rs 2 lakh. Anupama Singh, president of Rotary Club Choti Kashi, Mandi, and Amrit Pal Singh, president of Rotary Club Nerchowk, each donated Rs 1 lakh.

Appeal for empowerment and inclusive support
During her speech, Mallika Nadda called on attendees to not only support the hospital project but also to step forward for special children and women’s empowerment. She highlighted her decade-long work in these areas and urged continued community involvement.

Rotarian Praveen Agarwal, vice-chairman of the Amba Sharma Charitable Trust, extended heartfelt thanks to the chief guest, dignitaries and donors for their support. He acknowledged their contributions as vital to the success of the project. Certificates of appreciation were distributed to all trustees during the ceremony, recognising their efforts in advancing the charitable mission.
