MANDI: Mahila Congress national president Alka Lamba has criticised BJP’s Mandi candidate and Bollywood actor Kangana Ranaut saying the Lok Sabha election was not a three-hour movie where a flop film did not matter.
Instead, it was a serious matter where a representative was chosen for complete five years to drive development, said Lamba during a press conference in Mandi on Monday (May 27, 2024).
The Congress leader emphasised that the people of Mandi deserved a representative with a clear roadmap for development, and not a “puppet who lacked vision”. “Mandi needs a proactive MP, not someone who merely follows orders without contributing to the area’s growth,” she stated.
During the conference, Lamba unveiled a poster featuring BJP leaders allegedly involved in cases against women, referring to them as “Modi Ka Parivar”. She warned that if Kangana failed to raise her voice against such persons, her security deposit would be forfeited in the election. “Kangana’s defeat is inevitable, but remaining silent on women’s justice issues will ensure her deposit is lost,” the Congress leader said.
Lamba also commented on the nationwide political climate, stating that during her visits to over 25 states, she did not observe any significant support for the BJP or any Modi wave. She dismissed the BJP’s “400-paar ” slogan as a mere gimmick, asserting that the INDIA bloc was strong and that the BJP was being increasingly cornered by its own actions.
She said that the Narendra Modi government was a government of billionaires and the Prime Minister did not care about other citizens of the country. She said the Congress had prepared a complete roadmap for the overall development of the nation in its manifesto, which included giving away of government jobs to 30 lakh unemployed youth, including 15 lakh women and those getting overage on priority, decrease in prices of gas cylinder, free one year industrial training to youth for setting up their own business, one lakh per year to women, 400 fixed per day salary to daily wagers, waving off loans of farmers and MSP on their produce, to name a few.
Criticising PM Modi for using bad language during the election rallies, Lamba said that the people of the country must remember the bad words of Modi before casting their vote. The Congress spokesperson stressed that Modi government had in the past used all the government agencies to silent its competitors by either raiding their premises or sending them to jail.
She said electoral bonds was one of the biggest scams of the BJP government, which had exposed the Modi government. When questioned regarding the Swati Maliwal case, Lamba expressed her confidence in the Delhi Commission for Women Chairperson, describing her as a well-educated and knowledgeable woman.
“Swati knows how to seek justice and I am confident she will get it,” Lamba said. She contrasted the proactive work of the women’s commission and Delhi Police in Maliwal’s case with the lack of investigations into allegations against BJP leaders.
