A shocking case of domestic violence has emerged from the Mandi Municipal Corporation area, where a man allegedly attempted to kill his wife by throwing acid on her. The victim, identified as Mamta, a resident of Mandi, sustained serious burns on her face and back. The accused, her husband Nand Lal, fled the spot immediately after the attack and is currently absconding.
According to initial information, the couple hails from Sarkaghat and had recently purchased a house in Sain Mohalla, Mandi. Nand Lal, who runs a tea shop in the area, had been embroiled in a long-standing family dispute with Mamta. The matter was already pending in court.
Police said the incident took place late Saturday evening when Nand Lal reached Mamta’s residence. An argument broke out between the two, during which Nand Lal allegedly took out acid he had brought along and threw it on her. Hearing Mamta’s screams, neighbours rushed to the house and immediately shifted her to the Zonal Hospital, Mandi, for treatment.
As soon as the information reached the police, ASP Abhimanyu Verma arrived at the hospital to assess the situation. A police team has been deployed to trace and arrest the accused, who remains on the run.
Authorities say investigations are underway, and strict action will be taken once the accused is apprehended. The incident has triggered widespread concern in the town, highlighting once again the urgent need for stronger measures to prevent domestic violence and protect women’s safety.
