4 houses gutted in fierce fire at Kullu’s Sainj valley, one was completed merely a month ago

DHARAMSHALA: Four houses were gutted in a fire that broke out at Patela village in Sainj valley of Kullu district of Himachal Pradesh early on Thursday (December 14, 2023) morning.
The fire, which initially started in a house, escalated rapidly, resulting in more houses being up in flames even as villagers tried collective to douse it.
Despite efforts by the villagers, the fire swiftly spread, reducing four houses to ashes within a short period. The flames posed a significant threat to the entire village, creating a situation of urgency and concern.
The mysterious origin of the fire added to the crisis, leaving the villagers puzzled about the cause behind the destructive inferno. The losses have been estimated to be in lakhs of rupees.
Mahesh, a resident, reported that the wooden houses that were gutted were constructed in Kashtakuni style. The fire erupted around 5 am. Despite immediate response from nearby residents, the lack of water in the village hindered their attempts to control the blaze.
As the fire rapidly spread, the residents rallied to save the temple of deity Pazhari, located near the incident site. The temple, too, faced the imminent threat of the advancing fire, prompting villagers to take immediate action.
As the fire department was yet to arrive at the scene till the filing of this report, villagers tried to use soil to extinguish the flames. A newly constructed house, completed merely a month ago, too was gutted.
