Sirmaur: In yet another disturbing incident from Himachal Pradesh’s Sirmaur district, six girls from a government school in the Pachhad sub-division have accused a Hindi teacher of sexual harassment. The police have registered a case under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and other relevant sections and teams have been dispatched to trace the accused, who is currently absconding.

Students allege prolonged misconduct

Sirmaur Superintendent of Police (SP) NS Negi confirmed the incident and said the teacher had been accused of inappropriate behaviour and repeated sexual harassment. According to the police, the girls gathered the courage to report the matter after enduring months of misconduct. They first informed the school authorities and then approached the Pachhad police station.

“The Hindi teacher of the school has been accused by six female students of sexual misconduct. Based on the complaint, a case has been registered under the POCSO Act and search teams have been sent to locate the absconding teacher,” SP Negi stated.

Upon receiving the complaint, a police team rushed to the school, but the teacher had already fled. His mobile phone remains switched off and efforts to track him are underway. Statements from all six victims have been recorded.

Second incident in a week raises alarms

This is the second such case in Sirmaur district within a week, intensifying public concern and raising questions about the safety of girl students in schools. Just days earlier, 24 girls from a government school in Rajgarh had filed a similar complaint against a mathematics teacher, who was later arrested and is currently in judicial custody. The Education Department suspended him pending investigation.

The back-to-back incidents have shaken the faith in the sanctity of the student-teacher relationship and sparked outrage among parents and civil society. Many are calling for stricter background checks and monitoring mechanisms within schools.
