A devastating road accident in Saudi Arabia early Monday (November 17, 2025) has left at least 42 Indian pilgrims from Umrah in Hyderabad d*ead, after a passenger bus travelling from Mecca to Medina rammed into a diesel tanker.


Only one of the 43 passengers survived and is currently undergoing treatment at a local hospital, according to initial reports from Saudi media.

Midnight crash in Mufrihat proves fatal for group

The collision occurred around 1.30 am (IST) in the Mufrihat region. The bus went up in flames after the collision with the oil tanker. It’s not yet known whose fault it was. Preliminary information suggests the victims were part of a Hyderabad-based pilgrimage tour that included several women and children.
Officials said efforts were under way to confirm the identities of those on board.


Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy expressed deep shock and directed Chief Secretary K Ramakrishna Rao and DGP Shivadhar Reddy to gather verified information on the deceased and ascertain how many belonged to the state.


He instructed them to work closely with the Ministry of External Affairs and the Saudi authorities to accelerate assistance for the affected families.

Telangana govt sets up control room

A control room has been set up at the State Secretariat and Resident Commissioner Gaurav Uppal has been put on high alert.


Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi said he spoke with Abu Mathen George, Deputy Chief of Mission at the Indian Embassy in Riyadh, who confirmed that officials were compiling details from local authorities.
Owaisi said he had forwarded passenger lists shared by two Hyderabad travel agencies to the Embassy and the Foreign Secretary.


The MP appealed to the Union Government and External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar to ensure the mortal remains are brought back without delay and that the lone survivor receives the best possible medical care.
