Shimla: In a significant development, a total of 35 individuals have submitted applications to contest the upcoming Lok Sabha elections in Himachal Pradesh.
The Pradesh Congress Committee has been inundated with applications, with the Shimla parliamentary seat emerging as the most sought-after, boasting 16 candidates.
The Kangra constituency follows closely behind with 12 applicants, while Hamirpur has drawn interest from 5 candidates, and Mandi has garnered applications from only 2 contenders.
Shimla Seat Dominates with Diverse Candidates
The Shimla parliamentary constituency has attracted a diverse array of candidates, reflecting the varied demographics of the region. Former MLA Sohan Lal from Shimla Rural Kohbag, Surinder Singh Banolta from Kuthad village, and Yashpal Tanai from Jokhad village are among the notable contenders. The list also includes professionals like Dr. Ashwini Kumar from Mashobra and advocates such as Ram Kumar from Chakkan village in Bhadi.
Kangra’s Lineup Highlights Regional Leaders
The Kangra constituency showcases a strong lineup of potential leaders, with candidates like Nanak Chand Kashyap from Kandwal Nurpur village, Major General Dharamvir Singh Rana from Palampur, and Ashwini Kumar Choudhary from Dadi in Dharamsala. While Hamirpur has drawn applications from five candidates, including Lieutenant Colonel DS Patial and Captain Atul Sharma, Mandi has seen a relatively modest response with only two applicants – Gyan Chand Thakur from Jogindernagar and Vijendra Negi from Bhawanagar in Kinnaur district.
