3 posts already vacant, fourth teacher transferred from Chamba

CHAMBA: The Government High School at Mundah under Salooni education block of Dalhousie Assembly constituency is currently grappling with a shortage of teachers.

Instead of deputing more staff, another teacher from this school has recently been transferred to another institution, leaving the post of mathematics teacher vacant. Consequently, four teaching positions are now unfilled, putting the education of approximately 60 students at risk.

Moreover, the positions of TGT medical and language teachers have been vacant for the past year and a half, while the position of TGT arts has remained unfilled for the past eight months. The recent transfer of the mathematics teacher has aggravated the crisis, deepening concerns about the education of students.

Dinesh Rana, Chairman of the School Management Committee, along with members Meenakshi Devi, Reena Devi, Babli Devi, Mukesh Kumar, Shakti Singh and Ramesh Kumar, emphasised the urgent need to fill the vacant teaching positions at the school.

“The transfer of a teacher specialising in another vital subject has undermined the government’s efforts to enhance the quality of education. This situation raises doubts about the government’s commitment to providing quality education to children, sparking considerable discontent among parents,” he said.

In response, all officials and members of the local municipal council will meet Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu during his visit to the district and demand action. “If the teaching vacancies at the school are not promptly filled, parents have threatened to boycott sending their children to school and may resort to street protests.

The responsibility for addressing the issue lies with the education department and the government,” said Rana. He said students from three neighbouring panchayats — Salooni, Suri and Kharal — attend the school. “However, continuous teacher transfers are compromising the quality of education, raising concerns about the educational prospects of the students in the area,” he said.
