Adventure tourism activities suspended for 2 months
The Himachal Pradesh Tourism Department has imposed a ban on all adventure activities, including paragliding, river rafting and water sports, from July 15 to September 15, citing safety concerns. While some activities had already been halted due to local disasters, this notification enforces a state-wide suspension for the two-month monsoon period.
Since June 20, a series of cloudbursts, landslides, flashfloods and other natural disasters have claimed 105 lives across the state. An additional 184 people have been injured and 35 remain missing. Road accidents during the same period have led to 44 more fatalities.
Damage to infrastructure is extensive. Around 1,235 houses and shops — both temporary and permanent — have been partially or completely damaged. Additionally, 798 cow sheds, 953 domestic animals and 21,500 poultry birds have perished. The estimated financial loss so far stands at ₹786.67 crore.
