Kullu/Dharamshala:
Two persons have died and at least nine are reported missing after multiple cloudbursts triggered flash floods and landslides across Himachal Pradesh on Wednesday (June 25, 2025). The incidents, which occurred amid an orange alert issued by the Meteorological Department, caused widespread destruction, especially in Kangra and Kullu districts.

The situation slightly improved on Thursday as clear skies allowed rescue teams to ramp up their operations. Teams from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) have been deployed in affected areas, including the severely hit Jeeva Nullah region of Sainj, where the water level in the Pin Parvati river subsided, making rescue efforts more accessible.

Tourists, workers trapped as cloudbursts strike Kullu, Kangra

In Dharamshala’s Khaniyara area, a sudden cloudburst triggered flooding in the Manuni stream, sweeping away workers from an under-construction hydroelectric project in Sokani Da Kot. Authorities fear eight labourers, mostly from Jammu & Kashmir and Chamba, were caught in the floodwaters. Two bodies have been recovered so far and search operations continue.

Kullu district was battered by cloudbursts in at least four locations, including Jeeva Nullah in Sainj, Shillagarh in Gadsa, the Snow Gallery in Manali and Horangad in Banjar. Flashfloods destroyed eight vehicles, 10 footbridges and one hydroelectric project. In Sainj valley, three persons were swept away in Rehla-Bihal. Around 2,000 tourists in over 150 vehicles are stranded in areas like Shanshar, Shangarh and Suchain.

The Meteorological Centre in Shimla has issued a yellow alert for heavy rainfall on June 27, 28, July 1 and 2, and an orange alert for June 29 and 30. Flashflood warnings have been issued for parts of Chamba, Kangra, Mandi, Shimla and Sirmaur.
