2 Punjab devotees on way to Himachal temple dead, 19 injured as truck overturns in Kangra

Were en route to Chamunda Temple for Navratri langar service

A road accident occurred on Tuesday (September 23, 2025) morning near Dhaliara in Dehra subdivision of Kangra district Himachal Pradesh, leaving two devotees from Punjab dead and 19 others injured, including eight in critical condition.


The victims, all from Bathinda, were heading to the famous Chamunda Devi Temple to set up a ‘langar’ (community kitchen) for Navratri pilgrims when their truck overturned on a sharp bend, crashing into a roadside barrier.

Truck loses control on sharp turn

According to local authorities, the truck carrying devotees, along with cooking supplies and gas cylinders, was navigating a steep and curvy section of the road when the driver reportedly lost control. The vehicle hit the crash barrier and toppled over.


While the truck itself remained stuck near the road, several passengers along with bags of ration and LPG cylinders were flung down into the adjacent gorge. Two devotees died on the spot, while others sustained various injuries.

Eight critically injured shifted to Tanda Medical College

Emergency services, local residents and police quickly launched a rescue operation. The 19 injured were initially taken to the Civil Hospital in Dehra, but eight with serious injuries were later referred to Dr Rajendra Prasad Government Medical College, Tanda, for advanced treatment. The identities of the deceased have not yet been officially released.


The police have registered a case and started inquest proceedings. The district administration has assured all possible assistance to the injured and the families of the deceased.
