The Himachal Pradesh Transport Department has introduced new regulations for vehicle pollution checks, replacing webcams with smartphones connected to pollution check machines.
The step ensures that vehicles are physically brought to the pollution check centre before certification. Additionally, photos of the vehicle, the pollution check centre and a 4-5 second video will be recorded as proof.
Pollution check centres upgrade to version 2.0
The department recently upgraded its pollution check system to Version 2.0, which now includes geo-tagging via mobile cameras. This means pollution checks will only be valid if the vehicle is within the designated centre’s range.
Vehicles parked outside the centre’s premises will no longer be eligible for a pollution control certificate. This upgrade has been implemented across the state.
Revised fees for pollution control certificates
The department also revised the fees for issuing pollution control certificates in November 2024. According to a transport official, the new fee structure is as follows: Two-wheelers (petrol/CNG/LPG): Rs 100 (includes Rs 20 green tax); three-wheelers: Rs 120 (includes Rs 20 green tax); four-wheelers: Rs 130 (includes Rs 30 green tax) and diesel vehicles: Rs 150 (Rs 40 green tax).
A Regional Transport Officer said, “The Himachal Pradesh Transport Department has implemented NIC’s Pollution Control Software Version 2.0, and all pollution checks will now be conducted using this updated system.”
