Dalhousie – Speaker of the Himachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly, Kuldeep Singh Pathania, formally inaugurated the district-level Ashadh Nag Fair today at the picturesque town of Banikhet near the world-renowned tourist destination Dalhousie.
The ceremony witnessed the presence of MLA D.S. Thakur and Deputy Commissioner Mukesh Repaswal. Leading a grand procession from the Public Works Department Rest House in Banikhet to the revered Bhuru Nag Temple in Padher, Pathania performed rituals to commence the four-day celebration.

Addressing the gathering, the Speaker emphasized Himachal Pradesh’s identity as Devbhoomi (Land of the Gods), where fairs and festivals form an integral part of the state’s vibrant culture. He noted that such events not only nurture folk traditions but also reflect the local community’s reverence for deities, their religious devotion, and the spirit of social harmony.
He highlighted the historical and spiritual significance of Bhuru Nag Temple and the Ashadh Nag Fair, praising their deep-rooted cultural importance. Reaffirming the state government’s commitment, Pathania stated that solid efforts are underway to preserve traditional arts, architecture, and heritage sites so that future generations remain connected to their rich legacy.
He also lit the ceremonial lamp to inaugurate the cultural evening. Sub-Divisional Magistrate and Fair Committee Chairperson Anil Bhardwaj honored the Speaker with a traditional shawl, cap, and memento.
The event was graced by Nagar Panchayat President Arun Rana, District Congress Committee General Secretary Rajeev Kaushal, Superintending Engineer Rajesh Mogra, Rajeev Thakur, Deputy Superintendent of Police Yograj, Divisional Forest Officer Rajnish Mahajan, District Language Officer Tukesh Sharma, Tehsildar Ramesh Chauhan, and a host of other distinguished guests from the region.
