Olympic gold medallist from Haryana Neeraj Chopra’s secret wedding in the scenic hills of Kumarhatti in Solan district of Himachal Pradesh was planned with extreme confidentiality, including a unique criterion for selecting the wedding priest.
A priest without a smartphone was specifically chosen to ensure secrecy. Before finalising him, the organisers tested his knowledge by showing Neeraj’s photo and asking if he could identify him. When the priest failed to recognise the athlete, he was selected for the ceremony.
The wedding was an intimate affair with only 90 close guests from both sides. To maintain privacy, hotel staff members were not allowed to carry mobile phones and guests were instructed to keep their devices switched off throughout the event.
Luxurious resort has 52 rooms
The lavish wedding took place at the luxurious Surya Vilas Resort at Gandhigram on the Kumarhatti-Nahan highway, known for its five-star amenities and breathtaking views.
The resort, which boasts 52 rooms, offers luxury accommodations priced between Rs 40,000 and Rs 45,000 per night, while standard rooms range from Rs 10,000 to Rs 20,000 per night.
The prewedding celebrations began on January 14 with a ring ceremony, followed by traditional haldi and mehendi rituals, and a DJ night on January 15. The engagement and wedding ceremonies were held on January 16.
Interestingly, no celebrities or prominent personalities were invited, keeping the event entirely private. Neeraj’s bride, Himani Mor, hails from Sonipat in Haryana and is also an athlete currently pursuing sports studies in the US.
Despite tight security and secrecy measures, the wedding has now become the talk of the town, with many intrigued by the level of planning involved in keeping it under wraps.
