CSIR-IHBT Celebrates International Women’s Day with Enthusiasm

The CSIR-Institute of Himalayan Bioresource Technology (IHBT) celebrated International Women’s Day on its premises with great zeal, commemorating women’s fight for equality and liberation as part of the global women’s rights movement.

Welcoming the gathering, Dr. Sudesh Kumar Yadav, Director CSIR-IHBT, emphasized the importance of the day and highlighted the significant role of women in science, society, sports, and other fields. He underscored the need for equal opportunities and safety for women.

The chief guest, Dr. (Mrs.) Jatinder Kaur Arora, Advisor, Northern Region Science & Technology Cluster: PI-RAHI, Punjab State Council for Science and Technology, reflected on the glorious history of International Women’s Day and its evolving focus. She spoke about women’s contributions in changing times and the initiatives being led by women across sectors.

Advocate Adarsh Sood and Mrs. Nitika Bhandari graced the occasion as guests of honour. Mr. Sood elaborated on various legal initiatives, particularly the POSH Act, while Mrs. Bhandari shed light on social movements and societal issues concerning women.

The programme also included the felicitation of inspiring women entrepreneurs and female administrative staff of the institute. A workshop on “Strengthening of Inner-Self” was organized for female staff and students, encouraging self-growth and empowerment. Additionally, an exhibition showcasing creative artefacts prepared by women participants was put on display, adding a vibrant cultural dimension to the celebration.

The event concluded with a strong message of empowerment, equality, and recognition of women’s invaluable contributions to society.
