The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has strongly criticized the Himachal Pradesh budget for the financial year 2026–27, presented by Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, calling it “disappointing” and “a brake on the state’s progress.”

BJP spokesperson Sanjay Sharma described the budget as a “web of words and figures” that signals an economic emergency through cuts in salaries and allowances. He alleged that the government is attempting to hide its failures behind misleading claims.

Key Points Raised by BJP:

  • Blame on Centre: The BJP accused the Chief Minister of shifting responsibility onto the central government and the discontinuation of the Revenue Deficit Grant (RDG), instead of presenting a roadmap for development. The party emphasized that the Centre has already provided record assistance to Himachal through tax devolution.
  • Budget Cuts: The reduction of the budget size from ₹58,514 crore last year to ₹54,928 crore this year was termed a direct attack on development, betraying the trust of youth, farmers, and horticulturists.
  • Unfulfilled Promises: BJP highlighted that the government has failed to deliver on its “10 guarantees” promised before coming to power. New schemes like Mukhyamantri Apna Sukhi Parivar were criticized as distractions, while commitments such as the ₹1,500 monthly honorarium for women remain unfulfilled.
  • Burden of Inflation: The party warned that the government is preparing to increase taxes, adding to the burden of inflation on ordinary citizens, while citing international conditions and wars as excuses.

The spokesperson declared that the people of Himachal will not accept this “directionless budget.” The BJP vowed to expose the government’s “anti-people policies and false announcements” both inside the Assembly and on the streets. The party demanded a white paper on the state’s debt and actual development status over the past three years.
