In compliance with the ‘Anti-Chitta Campaign’ launched by the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh and operational guidelines issued by the State CID, the Nurpur Police District carried out a special inspection drive on Thursday to review de-addiction and rehabilitation centres operating across the district.
Under this drive, a District Inspection Team (DIT) was constituted, comprising the concerned Sub-Divisional Magistrate (Civil), Deputy Superintendent of Police (SDPO), Station House Officers (SHOs), Block Medical Officers, Tehsildars, and Drug Inspectors. The team conducted a comprehensive inspection of 14 de-addiction centres functioning in different sub-divisions of the district.
Key Highlights of the Inspection
- Joint Administrative Action:
Teams from the police and civil administration jointly inspected centres located in areas including Fatehpur and Indora, examining medical records, safety arrangements, and basic facilities provided to patients. - Compliance with Legal Provisions:
The documents and functioning of all 14 centres were thoroughly scrutinised to ensure strict adherence to the Mental Healthcare Act, 2017 and relevant provisions of the NDPS Act. - Verification of Standards:
The inspection focused on the use of scientific treatment methods, availability of trained medical and support staff, and verification to rule out the presence of any prohibited or unauthorised medicines. As per the preliminary assessment, arrangements at most centres were found to be satisfactory.
The Nurpur Police reiterated that protecting the human rights, dignity, and health of youths undergoing treatment remains a top priority. Authorities also clarified that such surprise inspections will continue in the future, and strict action will be taken against any illegal or unregistered de-addiction centres operating in violation of the law.
