Parwanoo: Sunil Taneja, a first-generation entrepreneur from Solan in Himachal Pradesh, has transformed his father’s vision into a globally recognised enterprise.
Encouraged by his father, who is a humble and principled police officer, not to chase the security of a government job, Taneja was instead inspired to create something bigger: a platform to generate employment, promote innovation and bring global recognition to both India and state of Himachal Pradesh.
In 1987, Taneja founded Ind-Sphinx Precision Ltd. in Parwanoo, Himachal Pradesh, in collaboration with Switzerland-based Sphinxwerke Müller AG.
The company manufactures world-class micro-precision tools like micro drills, routers and dental tools, used extensively in the electronics, aerospace and medical sectors.
Today, over 80 per cent of Ind-Sphinx’s products are exported to more than 35 countries, including the United States, Japan, Germany and several other European and Far-East nations.
Through these exports, Sunil Taneja has not only contributed to India’s manufacturing excellence but has also placed Himachal Pradesh on the global industrial map.
By proudly stamping “Made in Himachal” on cutting-edge precision tools and showcasing the capabilities of Indian manufacturing, Taneja has become a brand ambassador of Himachal’s potential in global technology and innovation circles.
His venture has attracted global clients and dignitaries to the industrial town of Parwanoo, breaking stereotypes about the state’s economic identity being limited to tourism and agriculture.
Under his visionary leadership, Ind-Sphinx has become a beacon of quality, innovation and sustainability, while also generating employment and augmenting the skills of the local youth.
Sunil Taneja’s journey is not just a tale of business success, but a story of honouring a father’s dream, choosing courage over comfort and proudly waving the Himachali badge across international borders.
