Kangra District and Sessions Judge Anil Sharma, presiding over a fast-track POCSO court, has sentenced 20-year rigorous imprisonment to a man in a case of abduction and molestation of a minor girl.
The convict, Amarjeet, has also been slapped a fine of ₹10,000, the failure to pay which will invite an additional two-year imprisonment.
The case came to light when the victim’s father filed a complaint at the Gangath police outpost in Nurpur sub-division of Kangra district on June 14, 2022.
According to the complaint, the victim had left for school in the morning, but failed to return home by the evening. Suspicion arose when Amarjeet, who worked in the same village, was also found missing.
Upon an investigation led by Assistant Sub-Inspector Virendra Singh, the accused was arrested from Rajouri in Jammu and Kashmir and the victim too was found in his possession.
During the interrogation, the victim revealed the harassment she had suffered at the hands of Amarjeet. The police collected physical evidence, which was sent for forensic analysis and the results came out to be positive. The government presented 21 witnesses in support of the case, leading to Amarjeet’s conviction in the kidnapping and molestation case.
